B is the leading tone in the key of C major — one semitone below the tonic, it creates a strong pull toward resolution. B major is a bright, ringing key popular in rock and pop.

In German musical nomenclature, "B" actually refers to Bb, while the note we call B is written as "H." This quirk famously allowed J.S. Bach to spell his name as a musical motif (Bb–A–C–B).
