Creators We Love
The YouTube channels that inspire String Warrior — history, technique, and pure love of stringed instruments from creators we genuinely watch and recommend.
Why this page exists
Nobody learns an instrument alone. Long before String Warrior existed, the creators below were putting real knowledge on YouTube for free — and they still shape how we think about the site. This page is our way of pointing you toward them.
To be clear about what this is not: nobody here paid to be listed, there are no affiliate links, and a listing doesn't mean a creator endorses String Warrior. These are just channels the people who build this site actually watch.
Five Watt World
Keith Williams is the guitar world's great documentarian. Five Watt World covers the history of players, brands, amps, and gear in short, tightly edited video essays — and unlike most of YouTube, he shows his work, crediting the books, interviews, and archives behind every episode, so each video doubles as a reading list.
Just as special is the community that has grown around the channel: thoughtful, welcoming, and led by a true gem of the musical ecosystem. If the history in our gear guides sends you down a rabbit hole, this is where the rabbit hole should lead.
Rick Beato
The master of the contrarian perspective. Rick worked his way up from the bottom of the music business, and every video carries the wisdom he collected on the climb — sharp ears, strong opinions, and just the right amount of old-man-yells-at-music energy. His long-form interviews draw a kind of brilliance out of legendary players that nobody else on YouTube gets close to.
When a Beato breakdown leaves you wanting to hear music the way he does, dig into our theory section and put your ears to work with the ear trainer.
Rhett Shull
A working professional musician who also happens to be a terrific content creator. Rhett's videos on tone, gear, and life as a player get straight to the point — no padding, no fluff, just the things you actually wanted to know. As far as we can tell he can play every instrument put in front of him, though we're still waiting on the five-octave marimba video.
If watching him hop between instruments gets you curious, our instrument library covers more than twenty of them — marimba, admittedly, not included.
Dylan Talks Tone
When you want to know what's actually happening inside your gear, Dylan is the resource. Dylan Talks Tone digs into the true ins and outs of the tech behind the music — pickups, wiring, amps, and what really shapes your sound — and he always lays down the truth about what he finds. Vendors don't get pumped up here; if a product can't meet the high bar he sets, he says so.
It's the same spirit behind our own gear pages: start with pickup types and the rest of the guitar gear guides, then let Dylan take you the rest of the way down.
Freekbass
The modern king of funk bass. Freekbass learned from the legends of the genre and carries those generational ideas into the mainstream — deep pocket grooves, fearless slap, and a stage energy that makes the funk feel like an open invitation instead of a members-only club.
This one is personal: in dark places, his playing has been the reminder that music is where you go to find the light again. If the groove grabs you, chase it through our bass scale maps and build a line of your own.
Danny Sapko
A bass-loving Brit on a mission to bring music back to where it belongs: loud, raw, and in your face. Danny's channel is equal parts riffs and comedy, powered by a low-end obsession so complete that around here the instrument is only ever pronounced “behs.”
If he leaves you wanting to crank an amp yourself, start with our bass hub or fire up the bass line generator and get loud.
