Dorian
Dorian is the 2nd mode of the major scale (step pattern W – H – W – W – W – H – W; from D: D – E – F – G – A – B – C). Minor with a raised 6th (natural 6) — soulful, smooth, and less dark than natural minor. The quintessential jazz-minor and blues mode.
Like natural minor (Aeolian) but with a natural 6 instead of a b6. The b3 and b7 give it a minor quality, but the natural 6th adds brightness and keeps the IV chord major.
Where you hear it: "So What" (Miles Davis), "Oye Como Va" (Santana), "Eleanor Rigby" (Beatles) — rock, blues, funk, jazz.
